This Saturday, January 19, 2013, is our National Day of Service. This day comes right before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The National Day of Service honors Dr. King’s life and deeds. There are many ways to help in your community even if you only have an hour. You could volunteer at a homeless shelter. You could volunteer at a pet shelter. You could clean up your local park. You could volunteer through the Red Cross to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy. You could assist the elderly or comfort the sick because it is flu season. You could reach out to a local Veteran or “Blue and Gold Star” family and see what they need. What do you plan on doing this National Day of Service? Let me know. I will let you know. And remember, you don’t need a special day to volunteer. Kids especially can volunteer anytime at school. There are volunteer jobs at my school. I am on Safety Squad and this is my third year on Peer Mediation. There are a lot of parents who volunteer at my school as well.
